Guardianship
A guardianship establishes a legal relationship between a child and an adult who isn't the child's parent, but it does not end the legal relationship between the child and the child's biological parents. This is usually done only in cases where the child is not in the care of a parent because the parent is unable to care for the child. Illinois guardianship law establishes specific duties for the guardian. The person is responsible for making arrangements for the minor's comfort, care, education and health, and consent to any medical care or treatment needed by the minor. The Court may require a guardian to make periodic reports to the court about the minor's mental, physical, and social condition, his current living arrangements, and any medical, educational, and other professional services the minor has received.
